Pixel Pizzazz 1 Poppies

"Pixel Pizzazz 1 - Poppies",  January 2012
Finished Size: 12.125 x 18.375 inches

Broderie Perse meets Digital Imagery.  The flowers and stems are hand appliqued. Embellishments include thread painting and Swarovski Crystal beads.  There is no piecing in this quilt!  The background fabric was created in Photoshop using a scanned section of the floral fabric and printed with my Epson printer on an EQ printables fabric sheet.

Pixel Pizzazz 1 - Poppies was selected as a finalist and exhibited at the 2012 International Quilt Festival/Houston in the annual IQA fall Judged Show, Quilts: A World of Beauty.

Note: No experience with Photoshop Elements is required to take this class, but student need to have basic computer skills, such as the ability to load software, use a mouse or trackpad, find and open the software, and find files on their computer.

Students can "try before they buy" with a 30 day trial version that is available on the Adobe.com website (click here to download), please download and install prior to class.  Versions 11 and newer can also be used in class. If you have version 10 or older, download the trial for class.

Note: The free trial download is very large (over 1G, the size of a movie), and could take several hours to download depending on the speed of your internet connection, so be patient :-)

An exercise to learn basic tools is how to work with a photo that results in a file ready to print for a small art quilt.  The pansy photo will be provided along with a handout with step-by-step instructions.

Here is a quilt I designed blending two photos.
During my lecture I explain why the quilt was about 5 years in the making
and how "Technology Saved my UFO". This quilt also has custom printed binding.

You can also create your own fabric yardage!
Here I am (on the right) showing 3 yards of cotton/silk fabric I had printed at spoonflower.com
during my lecture for the Wearable Arts Connection of Southern California in November 2013.
